This is My body.

Luke 22:   19And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.c

Yesterday afternoon, because I have been unwell and unable to attend church for a while, the lay minister brought me communion.  We had our own little service, joining in prayers and Bible readings together.  The climax of the service was, of course, the Lord’s Supper/Communion/Eucharist.

Whether you believe the eating of the bread and drinking of the wine is symbolic, or whether it has “real presence”, you are fulfilling his command to “do this in remembrance of me”.

Jesus said in John 6:  53Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

His body and blood are life to us.
